Jim is now IN NETWORK with Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. If you are interested in seeing if you have massage benefits, please call BCBS to confirm.

My journey to the field of massage started with sports and recovering from competitions, events and training. I have been fascinated with expediting recovery from all types of sports and outdoor activities through massage treatments. The results for myself and clients have been amazing and driven me to the fantastic field of massage therapy.

I have been working with professional athletes for several years in North America and Europe, but you don’t need to be a professional athlete to benefit from all the benefits of massage. I am excited to be part of the SportsLab (since Summer 2025) team to help you feel better, move faster and recover from any injuries. I provide clients with a unique and custom healing session with every treatment. My practice revolves around rehabilitation, treatment of pain and recovery by using modalities in deep tissue, trigger point, injury repair, Swedish and relaxation massage, as well as myofascial release. I work in conjunction and collaborate with fellow SportsLab practitioners to help clients achieve the best results for their optimal health and well-being.

I believe that getting regular massages as maintenance work will allow most people to do the things they love and be more active with less pain and discomfort for longer into their lives.

Benefits from massage include the following: Increased flexibility Maintaining flexibility Maintaining health Injury management and repair Recover from training & competition quickly Enhance athletic performance Increase range of motion Sleep improvement Immune function Blood pressure & stress management Relaxation Additionally, I travel and work with a professional UCI World Tour cycling team (ALPECIN-DECEUNINCK) during the race season. I’m a lifelong athlete and have always been fascinated by pain and movement patterns in bodies. I’m a queer, white-reading, able-bodied, menopausal cisgender woman living with chronic pain and autoimmune illness, and I use she/her pronouns. Like many folks in the US, I am made up of a kaleidoscope of influences, including German and Irish/Scottish Highlands (clans Currie/MacMhuirich,) and Southern Oklahoma/Northern Texas Cherokee ancestry. I was born in the traditional territory of the Eastern Band of Cherokee in North Carolina, went to NYU in 1990 for my undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Religious Studies and Linguistics and Tri-State College of Acupuncture for my graduate degree in Acupuncture Physical Medicine in NYC in 1997, and eventually moved to Portland in 2002.

I am fascinated by bodies and I’m here to really see you and listen to you, and I believe that movement and ease are everyone’s right. I love working with other queer and trans people, with disabled and low-mobility folks, with people that identify as fat, with neurodivergent folks, weekend warriors, professional athletes, regular desk job folks, your elderly mom or cranky teenager and really, all manner of folks that want to move their bodies with more ease.

Helping enhance athletic performance and recovery is a real passion, and I have a particular interest in tendon rehabilitation and overuse injuries. I have worked with all kinds of Olympic, Professional and elite athletes individually (dance, triathlon, basketball, volleyball, rugby, roller-derby, yoga, rock climbing, running, power/weightlifting, racquetball, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, soccer, tennis…) and in training camps and with teams. I want to help you avoid surgery and get off pain medication if that is your goal, and if you can’t avoid it, I can help you with pre- and post-surgical rehab work.

Primarily, I practice a holistic form of person-centered myofascial release via soft-tissue constrictions (sometimes erroneously called dry needling) but more accurately called Acupuncture Physical Medicine, and have curated a compassionate, trauma-informed and effective way of treating multitudes of acute or chronic pain, injuries, complicated pain disorders, chronic toxic stress, weekend oopsies and many other illnesses with the wisdom and guidance of my teachers. From working with our own NBA Portland Trailblazers, Olympic Rugby players and teen athletes to gardeners and desk-jobbers, I have truly seen it all. I do not have great affinity with children under 12, but I have great referrals for you!

I am endlessly curious about bodies and experiences, and I ask a lot of questions; my patient-centered style of acupuncture is well suited for many chronic or complex disorders that often fall outside the mainstream medical care approaches—I love a challenge and there is a lot of misinformation about pain out there, so I work hard to educate folks about their bodies and also about sometimes scary medical diagnoses they receive without context or explanation. I think it’s important to note that acupuncture’s effect on stress management, PTSD and trauma is immeasurable, and most pain has some component of these neurobiological aspects.

Originally from the New York/New Jersey area, Mikhael “Mik” Raymond has been part of Portland’s athletic and performance community since 2021. He is a Licensed Massage Therapist who practices as a soft tissue therapist, specializing in supporting athletes, performers, and active individuals in improving movement quality, recovery, and performance.

His work focuses on identifying soft tissue restrictions that can limit mobility, alter movement patterns, and reduce the body’s ability to efficiently handle training loads. Through a combination of targeted manual therapy and movement-based strategies, Mik helps restore tissue mobility, improve joint mechanics, and support more efficient movement.

Mik’s approach is rooted in performance support—helping clients not only address current restrictions, but also build a body that can tolerate the demands of training, competition, and daily life. He works collaboratively with clients to understand their sport, physical demands, and long-term goals, allowing treatment to be tailored to the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all model.

At SportsLab, Mik works with everyone from competitive athletes to everyday movers who want to move better, recover effectively, and maintain consistency in their training.

Outside of the clinic, Mik also provides soft tissue support for professional and collegiate soccer, track & field, and basketball programs, as well as independent athletes and performing artists, helping them manage training loads, maintain tissue health, and sustain high levels of performance.

Zach Shaver is a physical therapist specializing in orthopedic and sports injuries across a wide range of athletes — from youth competitors to high-level performers. He has a particular interest in working with climbers and overhead athletes, as well as field and court sport athletes including soccer, basketball, hockey, and baseball.

Originally from Las Vegas, Zach grew up playing baseball and developed an early passion for rock climbing. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from UNLV in 2019 before completing a Sports Physical Therapy Residency at Providence Sports Care Center. During his residency, he worked directly with the Portland Thorns (NWSL) as part of their sports medicine and performance team and provided clinical coverage for Division III athletes at Pacific University. Working alongside physicians, athletic trainers, and strength coaches in high-performance environments continues to shape how he approaches patient care at every level.

For Zach, rehab and performance exist on the same spectrum. His goal is to help athletes not only recover from injury but return stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for the demands of their sport. He emphasizes individualized care, progressive loading, and close collaboration with each patient to maximize participation and training while building toward long-term solutions. He incorporates tools like force plates and dynamometer testing to guide return-to-sport decisions — so you know exactly where you stand and what it will take to get back to competing with confidence. While he enjoys working with high-level athletes, Zach is equally passionate about helping youth athletes and active individuals build a strong foundation for long-term health and performance.

Outside the clinic, Zach is an avid climber and can be found spending time outdoors with his wife Michelle and two kids Easton and Jace, on the diamond helping coach his sons in baseball, or consuming copious amounts of coffee at a local shop.
